Located in northern Karnataka in the Western Ghats, Dandeli is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in the state. It is spread over an area of 834.16 sq.km, and is home to some of the endangered and rare flora and fauna in the country. Originally named as Anshi National Park, this wildlife sanctuary was actually a part of the reserve forest area in Goa and Maharastra, which extended to a total of above 2000 square kilometers. In the year 1987, some parts of Dandeli were added to the reserve forest area, creating a new Dandeli wildlife sanctuary. My husband and myself recently went to Dandeli. It was really great and fun filled experience. The climate was very cool and we got a nice chance to go Jungle safari.
This was my first jungle safari and staying night in forest..At night the fireflies were amazing sight..we saw peacocks, squirrel, deer and birds flying.. all in all it was a gud experience.
